PHOENIX – A Mesa man threatened to kill a police officer’s family while being taken into custody for driving under the influence.

On Monday, police officers were contacted about a drunk man sitting in a truck. Officers were told the driver had nearly struck an apartment porch while driving under the influence of alcohol.

When police officers approached the accident spot, they found 31-year-old Febyruss Benally who was the suspect, walking away from the truck. He shouted obscenities at police officers and appeared to be highly under the influence.

Police took him into custody and while being taken into custody, he shouted he was going to “kill an officer’ wife and kids and bury them”. He also said he “wanted to see another police memorial”.

Police charged Benally for aggravated DUI, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, threatening and possession of an open container.
