Drunk Driver Backs Into Gas Pump Igniting Fire

According to Hillsborough County deputies, 37-year-old Chad Michael Weber was driving under the influence of alcohol when he backed a motor vehicle into a Wawa store gas pump, causing it to burst into flames. The incident happened early Tuesday in north Tampa around 2:20 a.m.

Weber was behind the wheel of a 2016 Ford Mustang rental vehicle when he hit the pump at the store at 804 E. Bearss Ave.

The incident caused extensive damage not only to the pump, but also to the motor vehicle. The collision caused an estimated $10,000 damage to the pump.

The deputies observed signs of intoxication and took 2 samples for intoxication testing that showed that he was driving with a BAC level 0.180% and 0.174%.

Weber was taken to the Orient Road Jail on a charge of DUI and property damage. His bail was set at $500.
