Prescott woman accused of felony DUI after hitting construction site

809-Stephanie-BustamantePRESCOTT, Ariz. – According to Lt. Ken Morley with the Prescott Police Dept., a 43-year-old Prescott woman, is facing multiple felony charges after she hit 4 construction vehicles and injured 2 people on Tuesday night while driving under the influence.

The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. in the 700 block of Whipple Street. Stephanie Bustamante was driving a pickup truck when she struck 4 different construction vehicles in which a milling machine was also included.

There were 35 road crew workers working in the area of the crash and 2 of them were harmed. The workers who were on foot were not harmed by the accident, but the 2 injured were in pickup trucks and they suffered whiplash-like injuries. According to the police, the crash area covered about 1,700 feet after she hit the first vehicle and before her vehicle came to the final point of rest.

The cops tried to speak with Bustamante about the accident and how it happened, but she would not tell them what happened. With minor injuries, she was taken to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center (West) for treatment and she was evaluated at a Prescott hospital before being arrested.

For analysis, Prescott Police officers took blood, breath and urine samples from Bustamante as they reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and the result showed her BAC level 3 times more than the legal limit. Her BAC level was recorded at 0.216 percent when the crash happened and 0.213 percent about 3 hours after the crash. The limit of BAC level which is allowed in Arizona for driving is 0.08 percent.

The two workers injured in the accident were also transferred to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center (West) for treatment and they were released on Tuesday evening.

Bustamante was taken into custody and charged with felony DUI, felony endangerment, and aggravated assault. She faces multiple counts related to each crime. She was taken to the YCSO Jail in Camp Verde and booked.

It is not confirmed if she has an attorney.
