Increase in Arizona DUI arrests during holidays

Drinking alcohol and driving a motor vehicle over the holiday season is a serious problem, especially for other individuals present on the roads. This time of the year is considered the deadliest in which a large number of deaths occur after Thanksgiving are Christmas and New Year’s Eve as a result of drunk driving.

The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said that in 2012, more than 4,400 Arizonans were taken into custody for Arizona DUIs during the holiday season.

A large number of individuals are distracted by the holiday festivities and end up making the mistake of drinking and driving.

John M. Rhude, Esq., founding partner in the Arizona criminal defense firm Corso&Rhude said, “But while ordinary citizens might be distracted, people should know that law enforcement does not take drunk driving offenses lightly”.

Nearly 6,500 police, highway patrol officers, sheriff’s deputies and volunteers were involved in DUI task forces from all over Arizona in an effort to decrease dangerous accidents, said the Associated Press.

Almost 20,000 people were taken into custody for driving under the influence between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, from December 2011 to early January 2013.

Christopher P. Corso, Esq. said, “DUI is not only a serious offense, but it’s also a very dangerous and costly offense. When you’re armed with the facts, it makes it even more vital that you have a designated driver if you plan on drinking during the holidays”.

There is a tendency of increasing DUI arrests in Arizona. According to Arizona DUI lawyers, the sooner a DUI attorney is hired, the more the chances are for a client to win the case. Consulting a lawyer early in an Arizona DUI case might offer additional solutions.

In Arizona, every DUI case is different from the other and the decision is made after considering the specific facts and circumstances surrounding the DUI charges, so having an experienced Arizona DUI defense attorney is necessary if a person wants to protect their rights. Experienced DUI attorneys do everything which can be done to protect and defend individuals charged with drunk driving  while fighting their case and protecting their rights. They have the expertise to deal with DUI charges and will fight to get the charges dismissed.
