Alleged drunk driver behind bars for plowing pickup truck through apartment wall injuring 2

CHANDLER, Ariz. – A suspect drunk driver is in jail for plowing his truck through the wall of a Chandler studio apartment injuring the 2 individuals who were asleep inside. The incident happened on early Tuesday morning at about 2 a.m. in the area of Ray Road and Arizona Avenue.

According to the police estimate, 20-year-old Alexander Trujillo was travelling between 40 and 45 mph when his truck rammed through the wall of the apartment where a couple slept.

The victims suffered cuts and bruises when bricks from the wall fell on them and they were taken to a local hospital. After sometime, they were released.

A resident, Angelina Romo, said that she is lucky that she survived. She told 3TV’s Jill Galus that had she been asleep on the mattress rather than the couch, she would have been killed.

Work crews boarded up the wall of the damaged apartment.

One neighbor said that more lights are required in part the apartment complex where the accident happened and also said, “I don’t think it’s going to help if they’re drinking”.

Trujillo also suffered injuries in the crash and was treated at a local hospital. Police took him into custody and booked him on suspicion of DUI. He may face additional charges.
